College Ready School Diagnostic

CollegeCareerReady School Diagnostic

Project Summary

Assessing College Readiness

The CollegeCareerReady School Diagnostic is a web-based tool that assesses how well schools prepare their students for enrollment and success in college. This project is based on a nationally-recognized model of college-readiness developed by Dr. David Conley, which identifies four areas critical to college-readiness: key cognitive strategies, key content knowledge, academic behaviors, and contextual knowledge.

The CollegeCareerReady School Diagnostic has been in development since June 2007. To operationalize the conceptual model of college readiness, a School Diagnostic team selected 38 high schools and conducted two-day site visits that included classroom observations, analysis of school documents, and interviews and focus groups with administrators, counselors, faculty, and students. The schools that were selected demonstrated success in preparing students for college, particularly first-generation college attenders. Piloting of the Phase I of the School Diagnostic is expected to launch in Fall 2009 at selected College Board College Readiness Partnership districts.
